MUSINA,LMPOPO

Musina is the most northerly town in South Africa & is close to the Great North road & the border post to Zimbabwe & thus, the rest of Africa! The rich copper fields in the North Country ultimately led to the founding & growth of Musina (then called Messina - the Afrikaans spelling).

In Prehistoric times the Musina tribe discovered the copper and called it 'musina', in their language this word meant 'spoiler'. The Musina tribe knew copper in the ore weakened the iron melted from it, hence the name. It was rediscovered in the 20th Century by prospectors. Today Musina, South Africa is the centre of a large iron ore, semi-precious stone, diamond, coal, graphite, magnetite and copper mining area.

The Dingola/Bulai Execution Rocks is about 20km west of Musina. This is the historic site which was used for the execution of major offenders by the Musina chiefs. Smaller offenders were executed on Small Bulai, just on the other side of the road.

Mapungubwe National Park is South Africa's youngest and northernmost Park, declared around the historical archaeological site of Mapungubwe, and houses the fauna and flora of the Shasi area. Musina, Limpopo, South Africa boasts several other attractive parks including the Impala Lily Park & is well known for the abundance of the Great Baobab.

In front of Musina's Civic Centre the Zeederberg's Mail Coach stands silently as a historic reminder of the bonds between South Africa & the old Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) more than a century ago.

Welcome to Old Rock Safaris!

For a great hunting and nature experience book with us!!

We are situated in the Limpopo Province, South Africa, close to the town of Musina (Messina). Some of our farms have been in our family for 3 generations. We know this region, it's people, animals & plants very well.

In an effort to better the lives of everyone involved on the farms as well as the conservation of nature as a whole, hunting and tourism forms an integral part of our vision for this region.

More than 7000 hectares of land is currently in our possession with other concessions available as well. The farms are situated on both sides of the Sand River. Some of the oldest exposed rock formations namely Sand River gneiss lie exposed in this river bed - hence the name Old Rock Safaris. The farm borders on the south side of the Musina Nature Reserve which is a Baobab conservation area that specialises in the breeding of sable antelope and nyala.

The farms offer great panoramic views in all directions of the bushveld. A wide range of wildlife, birdlife and plants are in abundance.

You can expect to hunt for a good quality representation of the species available on different terrain from hills to flat ground and riverbeds. Our aim is to make the hunts accessible and enjoyable to all fitness and experience levels ranging from novice to experienced hunters.

We would like to promote and cultivate a holistic approach to hunting and nature. So you don’t need to fear that it is only for the brave and ruthless. We will try to ease you into the experience if you feel that you lack some and/or need more confidence. But we will also guarantee that the more experienced hunters will definitely have a unique and thrilling hunt as well.

Non-hunters, you will not be bored or feel left out.  You are more than welcome to accompany the hunters as observers. For those who do not wish to partake in the hunt or relax in and around the camp , day trips can be arranged to various points of interest such as shopping, golf, visit to a day spa or a day trips to the Kruger National Park or Mapungubwe World Heritage site.  Your wish is our command.
